Nasdaq Helsinki Unveils New Segment for ETN Products

Helsinki, January 20, 2025 โ€“ Today, Nasdaq (Nasdaq: NDAQ) has announced the launch of a new segment for Exchange Traded Notes (ETNs) at Nasdaq Helsinki. ETNs are exchange-listed debt instruments that represent a direct investment by the issuer in an underlying asset or derivatives contract, which could include single shares, pairs of shares, or crypto assets. Market makers enhance the liquidity of these ETNs. Similar ETN segments already exist in Nasdaq Stockholm and Nasdaq Copenhagen. The first issuer to bring ETNs to Nasdaq Helsinki is Virtune AB, a financial institution registered with the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, based in Stockholm, Sweden, specializing in crypto Exchange Traded Products (ETPs). Virtune has listed five instruments on Nasdaq Helsinki: the Virtune Bitcoin ETP, Virtune Staked Ethereum ETP, Virtune Crypto Altcoin Index ETP, Virtune Staked Solana ETP, and Virtune XRP ETP.

“We are excited to introduce Finlandโ€™s first crypto ETNs through Nasdaq Helsinki, which supports Virtune’s vision of becoming the leading crypto asset manager in the Nordics. This development significantly enhances our connection with the Finnish market, allowing Finnish investors to invest in crypto via locally listed exchange-traded products priced in EUR, thus providing a secure and straightforward way to integrate crypto into their traditional portfolios,” stated Christopher Kock, CEO of Virtune.

Back in 2015, Nasdaq Stockholm was among the first exchanges to list exchange-traded products with Bitcoin as the underlying asset. This was then followed by Ethereum products in 2017 and, most recently, ETNs tracking cryptocurrencies in 2020.

โ€œAs pioneers in the Crypto ETP market, we have built a strong foothold in Europe with a market share of approximately 23%. We are eager to expand our listing and trading services to Nasdaq Helsinki, with Virtune as our inaugural issuer, providing local access to these offerings,โ€ remarked Helena Wedin, European Head of Exchange Traded Products at Nasdaq.

โ€œETN products open doors to alternative investments while ensuring the transparency of a regulated market. We are pleased to launch this new segment at Nasdaq Helsinki with Virtune leading the way as the first issuer,โ€ added Henrik Husman, President of Nasdaq Helsinki.

Nasdaq Helsinki ETNs can be traded through banks and brokers.
